Assembly and Testing
The R1 is assembled in America - and powered by a Japanese mecaquartz movement.
"If you're looking for a functional, durable, and historically informed chronograph for under $500, you're absolutely going to love the Vaer R1 chronograph."
The best of both worlds
The R1's movement uses quartz technology for the main functions of the watch and a mechanical module for operating the chronograph. This means that you get that beautiful sweeping motion for the chronograph, but you don’t need to worry about power reserves and keeping the watch wound, as the battery will keep it running. You also get the benefit of quartz accuracy here at +/- 20 seconds per month.
Two Case Sizes
With 3 unique colorways
Our goal at Vaer is to deliver our owners a enough customization to make each watch we sell custom fitted to every persons unique tastes and lifestyle. We're excited to offer the chronograph in two distinct sizes; a 60s authentic 38mm case, and a larger and more modern 42mm for those who prefer more presence on their wrist. Of course, all R1 models will ship with two 20mm interchangeable straps, and the optional upgrade of a premium leather strap or stainless steel bracelet.
A dial and case rooted in 1960s F1 racing.
Like all Vaer watches, our goal with the R1 was to combine collector oriented aesthetics with our own function-first design ethos. Midcentury watches like the Heuer Autavia, and Omega Seamaster Chronograph were important reference points for our design, though we've worked to blend elements to create something truly individualized and unique. The choice to avoid a tachymeter and bezel were important distinctions and allowed us to deliver a legible and accessible chrono design, that is colorful and complex without being overwhelming or crowded.
Why are we making this watch?
At the start of the year, a chronograph watch was the biggest missing piece in the Vaer lineup. It’s something that we always intended to make, it was just a matter of when, and what kind? In our view, the hybrid mecaquartz the perfect option for a first release because we can keep the price around $400, order far more pieces (in more sizes), and ultimately deliver a watch that makes sense for everyday ocean wear, which is a core ethos for our brand.
Early Bird Access starting at $319
