Here at Vaer our goal is to build watches that can be worn everyday, in all conditions. A critical aspect of longterm wear is comfort and fit. Having a watch that is either too big, or too small can quickly disqualify it from a place in your daily rotation. If you're new to watch case sizing, below is a general overview of the sizes of our 5 core case designs.

Watches are measured by case diameter. This measurement does not include the crown or lugs.

SUMMARY: The D4 Meridian is a historically-inspired 20ATM dive watch, that stands out in the Vaer line-up thanks to its perpetual Japanese solar quartz movement and accessible sub-$500 price point. As a D4 model, this watch is the solar-powered version of our popular 20ATM professional-grade diver. In our opinion, the solar movement provides the best of both worlds - perpetual timekeeping with incredible accuracy. Six hours of sunlight will provide six months of power reserve, and the watch can run off any light source (even candlelight).

WHO IS THIS WATCH FOR? We recommend the D4 for those seeking a dependable ocean-oriented tool watch that can also be dressed up for more formal occasions. The perpetual timekeeping function of a solar-powered quartz watch makes it the perfect fit for an everyday wearer, and the choice of 38mm and 42mm case sizing provides an option for most men's wrists while also maintaining our commitment to ergonomic, and timeless proportions.

INSPIRATION: In designing the D4 Meridian our goal was to pay homage to the history of military dive watches while also further establishing a distinct and modern Vaer aesthetic. This watch's dial design and bezel are inspired by Rolex and Doxa military divers from the 1970s - and the case is inspired by the military issue Omega Seamaster. The D4 Meridian Solar is further distinguished as one of the first Vaer field watches powered by ambient light - a premium feature that optimizes its use in remote settings and helps deliver on the promise of near-perpetual timekeeping.

Sizing and Fit

This watch is sized at 42mm in diameter, and measures 48mm from lug to lug, giving it a small to medium to large sized presence on the wrist, and complementing most men's wrists over 7 inches. The 42mm case is our largest sized dive option, and we recommend it for anyone with wrists in the 7 inch to 9-inch range, or especially if you're someone who likes a more larger modern fit (compared to our smaller 38mm dive case options).

Built for extended outdoor use, this watch has been designed to be slim, lightweight, and as comfortable as possible, while still maintaining 20ATM water resistance. The watch case measures 11.6mm in height (13.7mm with crystal) and has a case weight of 70.6 grams. The entire case is also rounded and ergonomic so it can be worn comfortably during activities like surfing or diving.

This watch comes in a range of interchangeable strap options, and they are designed to fit wrists ranging from 6.5" to 8.5" in diameter - though we do have specialty straps available for those with wrists outside of this range.

Really unfortunate experience with this

"Really unfortunate experience with this watch but it was mostly the jubilee bracelet & clasp. The locking mechanism didn’t properly close on one side and the pins on the quick release were defective and the watch fell off my hand 3-5 times in one day. It appeared as if the quick release pin was too short and didn’t go all the way in the dial hole. I switched to the black rubber strap it came with and it didn’t have that issue. The real problem I had was with customer service. Took me two weeks to get a reply and the reply didn’t hit both issues. It was clear the person that reached out skimmed my email inquiry. It was another week after that before I heard from someone. I also paid the $11 for “expedited shipping, returns, and exchanges” and it was anything but expedited. The watch was fine, a little small but that was expected. I was really let down by the customer service tbh. I know it’s only a $600 watch but to some people, me included, that’s a lot of money for a watch. And to not be able to wear it on the Jubilee you paid for, for 3 weeks, is unsatisfactory, IMO. That being said, I love my C5 solar and I think it may have just been a bad few weeks at Vaer."

Aspiring to greatness, but not there yet

"The watch is the perfect size. Vaer appears to have fixed the second-hand issue so it now hits all the markers with each tick, which is much appreciated. And unlike Seiko, their bezel lines up perfectly. What I didn't like, however, was how incredibly stiff the bezel was to rotate. It required some WD-40 and about half an hour of constant rotation to have to work properly. Additionally, the beveled lugs were quite sharp and needed the attention of a high-grit nail file to make them smooth to the touch. And lastly, Vaer doesn't include a shorter length strap option with their watch. I have smaller wrists, so their straps were useless for me. The watch does look nice on the wrist and appears to keep good time. Just wish it didn't require so much after-purchase attention to make it worth the money."
