My sales tax doesn't match my location - why?

Welcome to the incredibly fun (frustrating) world of sales tax Nexus - we don't make the rules, but we do have to follow the law.

Sales tax laws for online businesses vary widely across each state. There are many situations will you will be charged a DIFFERENT tax rate then if you were to shop at a brick and mortar store in your city.

For example, in Missouri, businesses are require to collect sales tax at the rates where they're located (not the customer) - our warehouse is located in Kansas City, Missouri, so that's the tax rate we're legally required to collect. It's a similar premise to paying the sales tax rate of the location where a brick and mortar is located when you are shopping outside of your town.
