The C1 Ceremony is a minimalist quartz dress watch designed for formal wear, daily office use, and understated versatility. It combines slim proportions, restrained detailing, and Japanese manufacture with the same durability and water-resistance standards found across Vaer’s tool-watch collections.
This quick-start guide covers essential operation and handling for the C1 Ceremony. For deeper technical detail on quartz movements, servicing, and long-term care, refer to Vaer’s full Quartz Watch Care & Handling Guide.
1. Purpose & Design Overview (C1 Ceremony Collection)
The C1 Ceremony is Vaer’s interpretation of a modern dress watch: clean dial geometry, minimal text, refined case finishing, and compact proportions that sit comfortably under a cuff.
Unlike traditional dress watches, which often sacrifice durability for thinness, the C1 is designed to function as a true everyday watch—appropriate for formal settings, but robust enough for travel, weather exposure, and daily wear without special handling.
Case sizing options:
- 36mm case with 20mm lug width
- 34mm case with 18mm lug width
Both sizes share identical construction, movement, and operating principles.
2. Water Resistance & Crown Operation
The C1 Ceremony is rated to 10 ATM / 100 meters of water resistance.
This rating is suitable for:
- Rain and snow
- Hand washing and showering
- Swimming and surface water exposure
As with all watches, laboratory depth ratings do not perfectly map to real-world conditions, which include motion, temperature change, and repeated crown use.
All Vaer watches use a screw-down crown, which is essential to water resistance and required for warranty coverage.
To secure the crown:
- Press the crown gently toward the case
- Rotate clockwise until snug
- Do not overtighten
Important:
Never expose the watch to water or steam unless the crown is fully screwed down. Flooding caused by an unsecured crown is considered misuse and is not covered under warranty.
After saltwater exposure, rinse the case and strap with fresh water.

3. Setting the Time (Quartz Movement)
The C1 Ceremony is powered by a Japanese-made Miyota 1L45 quartz movement, selected for slimness, accuracy, and long-term reliability.
To set the time:
- Unscrew the crown by rotating it counterclockwise until it releases
- Pull the crown outward to the time-setting position
- Rotate the crown to set the correct time
Once set:
- Push the crown fully inward
- Screw it clockwise until snug
The C1 does not include a date complication, which simplifies operation and reduces mechanical wear over time.
4. Crystal, Case, and Everyday Wear
The C1 Ceremony uses synthetic sapphire crystal, rated 9 on the Mohs hardness scale, second only to diamond. Sapphire provides excellent resistance to everyday scratches from fabric, desks, and incidental contact.
Sapphire is extremely hard but rigid. Sharp, concentrated impacts against stone, concrete, or metal can cause cracking.
The stainless steel case is finished for durability and visual restraint. Light surface wear and micro-scuffs will accumulate with regular use and are considered normal. These marks are cosmetic and do not affect performance or water resistance.
Avoid prolonged exposure to:
- Harsh chemicals or solvents
- Abrasive cleaning agents
- Extreme heat (such as leaving the watch in a closed vehicle under direct sun)
5. Straps & Strap Changes
C1 Ceremony watches ship with quick-release leather straps, allowing tool-free strap changes.
To remove a strap:
- Pull the small metal tab on the underside of the strap to disengage the spring bar
To install:
- Seat one end of the bar into the lug
- Pull the tab inward
- Align and release
Ensure the strap with the buckle is installed on the 12 o’clock side of the case.
Strap care:
- Leather straps should not be submerged
- Allow leather to dry fully if exposed to moisture
Always confirm the crown is fully secured before cleaning the watch head.
6. Shock, Magnetism, and Temperature
Quartz movements are highly resistant to shock and largely immune to everyday magnetism. Still:
- Avoid hard drops onto stone or tile
- Avoid prolonged close exposure to strong magnetic sources
- Avoid extreme temperature environments
Normal daily wear, commuting, and travel are well within design tolerances.
7. Battery Life & Serviceability
The Miyota 1L45 quartz movement uses a silver-oxide battery with an expected lifespan of approximately 3–5 years.
As the battery depletes, you may observe:
- Irregular seconds-hand movement
- Intermittent stopping
- Complete stoppage
These are normal indicators of battery depletion.
All C1 watches use a screw-down, gasket-sealed caseback. While battery replacement is technically possible at home, Vaer recommends professional service to ensure:
- Proper gasket reseating
- Preserved water resistance
Vaer offers in-house service and supports long-term ownership through its Pre-Owned Buy-Back Program.
8. Long-Term Ownership
The C1 Ceremony is designed to be worn frequently and kept long-term. With basic care and periodic battery replacement, it can provide decades of reliable service.
Its combination of Japanese manufacture, sapphire crystal, screw-down crown, and serviceable quartz movement distinguishes it from most dress watches in its category, which are often designed for occasional wear rather than daily use.
