A Story of Island Survival

In these challenging times, we've witnessed incredible stories of resilience, survival, and the human spirit's connection to nature. One such story is of Henry Pott, a whale watching guide in Tonga's Vava'u islands, whose lifestyle mirrors the endurance and reliability we strive for in every Vaer watch.

For nearly two years, Henry lived in near isolation, his life a testament to self-reliance and the profound bond with his environment. "During COVID, I had to do everything on my own. I couldn't go to town to get food or anything. I did a lot of spearfishing. I ate a lot of coconuts. I was just trying to survive," Henry shares. His experience, documented in Water & Solitude: The Story of a Tongan Whale Guide, highlights not only his survival but also the critical importance of conservation and protecting our natural world.

Recognizing the strength and spirit of Henry's story, we were honored to support this documentary project and help equip the crew and featured characters with our C5 Tactical Solar and D4 Solar Diver watches. These timepieces, designed for the rigors of watermen's lives, were a perfect match for the challenging conditions of Tonga, symbolizing the resilience Henry and his family demonstrated.
